Why kink-shaming models should be done with caution.

If you’ve ever seen a model selling a Premium Snapchat Subscription, you’ve seen a model breaking a term of service (TOS) agreement. Breaking TOS only seems to be an issue in our industry if the violation in question contains material considered offensive or taboo by the general public. I’ve seen models time and time again throughout my years policing other models with unfounded righteousness. Condemning acts they find reprehensible while participating in their own unscrupulous actions. Taboo acts come in all shapes and forms. By being in this industry, we are guilty of humoring taboos in one form or another.

Taboo (adj.): banned on grounds of morality or taste (2019, merriam-webster.com)

The biggest taboo genres in pornography include, but are not limited to blasphemy, age-play, incest-play, and race-play. Whenever I’m asked if I do Taboo Role-Play, I know that there is a high possibility that one of these four genres is what the client is hoping for. Some taboo roleplays are illegal and I’m not recommending them in any way, but some are just offensive, which is pretty much the point of taboo.

Am I offended by these taboos? Most of them actually. Does that mean I have to go around condemning every taboo practice I see? Probably not. I learned long ago that I don’t want to be the model hating on other models for doing something I don’t want to do myself. It gives me the power to be able to say no. Only if the act in question is hurting someone physically without consent, or considered an illegal act (ex. assault, inciting riots) do I feel I have an obligation to report the offense. I prefer to stay in my own lane if possible.

Models are bombarded with moral dilemmas on a daily basis. Models choose which paths to take based on the situation and information given. Sometimes clients trick us mid-session and being able to navigate these situation comes with experience. There is no handbook on how to porn. Sympathy for other models is a virtue.

We pay a price for everything to live in a free society. And what we pay for free speech is toleration. We have to tolerate things that we don’t necessarily like so we can be free. “

— Larry Flynt, Free Speech Panel – Pt. 1: Larry Flynt, Maz Jobrani & Peter Eliasberg | Interviews | Tavis Smiley | PBS

My years in the industry have taught me to be tolerant of those I disagree with. Many people outside of our industry don’t tolerate me based simply on the fact that I am a Sex Worker. Taking my clothes off for money already makes me a target by those who think that this act is reprehensible. If I am not tolerant of others in my career, what sort of hypocrite am I?

Throughout the years I have learned that those we assume would be absolutely offended by the content considered taboo are many times the culprits requesting the content in the first place. I call these hypocritical clients. An example of a hypocritical client would be a Senator who runs an anti-porn campaign caught purchasing sexual services. In a job that is this unusually independent as well as secretive, client demographics rarely come up in casual conversation. Instead, we use the scarlet letter to shame our own kind. Being naughty is a turn on for a lot of our clients. Turning on each other doesn’t make clients quit asking for the service. Nor does shaming our own kind prevent hypocritical clientele.

Many people with unresolved issues of past trauma come to us because this is how they work through things. But trauma isn’t the only reason one might choose to participate in taboo role-play, sometimes it’s just the act of doing something you shouldn’t do. I don’t think it is harmful to experiment with sex. In fact, I think sexual role-play may be a healthier release than many other options available.

Kink (sexual) (n.): bizarre or unconventional sexual preferences or behavior. (2019, dictionary.com)

Pornographic content is full of offensive things. The art of filming a sexual act is already considered taboo by much of the population. And even though porn is more accepted today then it was 50 years ago, it’s still not widely accepted by the popular majority. In fact, a growing number of states have officially deemed pornography as “A public health crisis.” (https://www.apnews.com/9c91cfd28a7b461b87948f36117a432e )

Recently one of the largest clip sites, Manyvids.com, banned blasphemy clips. Many models voluntarily took the offending clips down immediately. Some blasphemy clips were forcibly removed by Manyvids.com, which is the right of the company. Other clips still sneak by to this day, because it’s not unimaginable for models to violate TOS. Offering Blasphemy Roleplay is a violation of Manyvids.com Terms of Service as well as many other adult sites. This doesn’t mean models have stopped providing the service, although they probably should move it to a place that allows it.

It’s not surprising that a large majority of models are willing to break TOS for the sake of sales and art. All you have to do is look at the number of models selling Premium Snapchat Subscriptions and you get an idea that it’s the Wild West out there. Part of the business is pushing boundaries and no one seems to be without sin.

The longer I have been in this business, the more desensitized to particular sexual kinks I have become. I have been asked for things I am not willing to repeat. I have denied a lot of things, but also explored many things. It’s a part of the learning curve I think many models experience.

Blasphemy (n.) the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God

With the name Leviathan, blasphemy is a huge request many people have from me. Surprisingly, from what I’ve experienced, it’s not those with hate for the religion asking for the service. In fact, it’s typically quite the opposite. From Mormon to Muslims, it’s a service that is in high demand among members of religious groups. Normally clients want role-play that tickles their senses and stimulates their mind. Other taboo genres seem to follow the same equation. Having some knowledge of the religion you are insulting when doing Blasphemy Role-Play is even more appealing to those playing. The religion is typically something they themselves practice. So knowledge equals power in these situations.

Typically, from what I can tell, those asking for the taboo are part of the group the taboo is offending. That’s probably what makes the taboo more exciting and appealing to those requesting the kink. The act of doing something they are not supposed to do is sexy and dangerous. It causes the heart to beat and adrenaline to rush. Something they should absolutely stand up against, according to their culture and moral center, fulfills the fantasy. I’m not a social scientist, but I’m guessing this is the part of the kink that gets the viewer off. It doesn’t mean the members involved in the particular taboo are advocating for it to be a part of society. Probably quite the opposite.

Sexual role-play is a large part of the adult business. Hopefully, it’s playful, fun, and exhilarating for our clients. Sexual fantasies are not something normal people talk about with people they see in their ordinary daily lives. A large part of the job is to give our clients an outlet. Taboo role-plays explore topics that are out of bounds or off-limits in general society. This is where I believe sex-workers play an intricate role in society. We are here to facilitate a safe place for our customers to explore their most taboo fantasies.

Offensive or not, models will continue to break rules and customers will continue to pay for things that are considered taboo. This is just a part of the industry and if it isn’t hurting anyone or illegal, I really don’t care what two consenting adults do with their time. I’ve seen enough in my years that little surprises me anymore. Maybe I’m jaded, and maybe my moral compass needs reset, or maybe I just know that I am not without sin, and catering to my client is more important than what society thinks of me.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, they say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them,

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Bible, King James Version, John.8

Spoiler: No stones were thrown that day
